From an Atlantic beach, I saw in March, a non-blinking red object move across the sky then stop relative to the stars. What was it?

"A couple of winters ago I was sitting on a beach on the east coast Outer Banks of North Carolina at night. I saw a non-blinking red point of light move across the sky over the Atlantic about 1/2 way between the horizon and zenith. It was moving at a very good speed, it traveled 1/3 of the way across the sky and made a sharp turn and then came to a stop. It was still there some hours later and didn't move with respect to the stars between the Pleiad and Orion."
