You would see stars from the Moon, even very close to the Sun! On Mars, the atmosphere is much thinner than the Earth, but carries a lot of dust, so I would expect a sky about as bright as Earth twilight so you would be able to see some of the very bright stars all the time, but probably not the faint ones we can see with our unaided eyes from Earth on a clear night.
