Did space really expand faster than light?

So far as Big Bang cosmology tells us, yes it did. And since Big Bang cosmology, based on Einstein's general theory of relativity, seems to be the most accurate cosmological model we have, we are for the time being compelled to take this prediction at face value until we can figure out ways of experimentally verifying this, or finding flaws with general relativity and Big Bang cosmology on other fronts.
