How much of the sky do you actually see each night?

I have not really thought about this very carefully, but I would guess it is close to 1/2 the entire celestial sphere provided you are in a spot of the Earth with a clear view of the geometric horizon. Otherwise, it may be less if mountain ranges are present. I know this is a lame answer, but it seems reasonable to me.
