We know that we need at least 4 to keep track of things: The three dimensions of space that give us freedom to move Up-Down, Left-right, and forward-backward, plus the dimension of time. There has also been quite a lot of talk in the last decade or so about 'hidden' dimensions which are needed to unify the 4 forces in nature. But some feel this is just a book keeping problem and in fact nature doesn't really have any more than the 4 we already know about.
No one has the faintest idea how to go about proving that other dimensions really exist in the microcosm. The energies are so big that we cannot figure out how to build the necessary accelerators and instruments. We know that Mother Nature is rather frugal, so I would be very surprised if more than 4 dimensions existed.
