
The above image is what the sky looks like at 3.5 microns in the infrared part of the spectrum. It was made by the NASA COBE satellite. Have a look at the neat display over at the Goddard Space Flight Center, and don't forget my Online Guide to Infrared Astronomy which features detailed infrared views of some selected regions as seen by the COBE satellite.
