How do you calculate the magnitude of the lunar tidal bulge?

It is a difficult calculation that is beyond my ability to reproduce. Have a look at books on celestial mechanics for the details. To get it exactly right requires quite a lot of calculus and setting the problem up correctly. Sorry.
