Could aliens really see our TV programs?

Now there's a scary thought!

The answer is, probably not, because the information stored in the carrier signal will degrade during its transit, causing critical phase, frequency and intensity information to be lost. The end result would be like the 'snow' you see on TV for stations not broadcasting, but there would be vague shapes and light/dark regions that may prevail, left over from the original raster pattern, assuming that the aliens can figure out what the rastering scheme for the images was! European and United States schemes are very different.

More importantly, at any given moment, there are many TV broadcasts happening at the same frequency at the same time, so they would al get scrambled in a hopeless mess.
