Well...let's put it this way, on the surface of the earth I weigh 160 pounds. That's under the influence of a gravitational field which produces 980 cm/sec/sec of acceleration. If I were dumb enough to stand on the surface of the Sun, the acceleration there is 27,000 cm/sec/sec which means that my humble frame would weigh 160 x 27,000/980 or 4,400 pounds. And when you consider that the surface of the Sun is over 100 times farther from ITS center than the Earth's surface is from the Earth's , that gives you an idea of how big and bad the Sun is in this neck of the woods! No wonder it can hold planets in their orbits all the way out to Pluto!
